Pontecosi village with its pretty lake, churches, traditional houses also has a café/village shop close to the apartment, right on the shores of the lake, which not only stocks basic groceries but which sells ice cream and a small but tasty selection of reasonably priced hot and cold snacks.

The lake is a haven for wild birds and is also a good fishing venue. There is a traditional Italian bowling (bocce) alley and a children’s play park.

Horse riding, mountain biking and hill walking as well as fishing in the river Serchio are amongst the attractions of the area. Skiing (Abetone) and the (Viareggio) coast are just over an hour's drive, making this an ideal property all year round.

The medieval market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is about 4 km away, while Lucca is 48km and Pisa 72 km. The drive to Pisa airport takes 1½ hours. Castelnuovo train station is on the main Pisa – Lucca - Aulla line and there is a bus station with good links to the surrounding area.
