The Secret Italy: Discover Where Real Property Bargains are Still Possible

Italy, with all its beauties and touristic areas, is renown to be a prestigious property marketplace and all VIPs owning a property there are just a further proof of its value. However, as most of its lovers know very well, Italy is a basket plentiful of varieties; various landscapes, different cultures and dialects, food and cuisines. This is also reflected on its property market, with areas where property value can reach €28,000 per square metre, as in Piazza di Spagna in Rome, and other areas where prices are well far away from those figures.

If we take Tuscany, for instance, which is the most popular Italian region for property buyers, it offers great opportunities in places a bit off the beaten tracks; Lunigiana is one of them. It is an area mainly included in the province of Massa and Carrara, the furthest north tip of the region, with wonderful mountains and green valleys. Lunigiana is attracting an ever increasing number of home investors thank to its beauties and to a property price range favourable to buyers. To purchase a stone house in habitable conditions in Lunigiana between 80 to 100 thousands Euros are needed, a lot less if you are keen on facing restoration. This area is appealing also for its location, as it is close to the wonderful and popular coastline of Cinque Terre, in Liguria, or Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi.

Another affordable area in Tuscany is Garfagnana, which is placed in the northern part of the province of Lucca. Here, as well as in Lunigiana, prices are attracting more and more buyers and with such an increase in popularity their property value will rise, providing a good income yield.

Also popular places such as Lake Como or Liguria can offer true property bargains comparable to less popular places, where with 120/130 thousand Euros it is possible to buy a nice apartment with lake views or on a hill with stunning views over the Ligurian sea.

Calabria and Sicily are other examples of very famous regions where real estate prices can be very cheap if avoiding hot spots such as Taormina or Tropea. With as little as €40,000 you can buy a small apartment in Calabria in good conditions at 300 metres from the beach. Here though, you need to be a bit more careful in choosing the estate agent to work with, as in the past there had been cases of scam with new developments, mainly with developers coming from abroad. However, this extra care should be enough, and choosing an established estate agency will make you well and safe with your investment.

If on one hand there are cheap areas within popular places, on the other hand Italy still offers whole regions yet to be totally diccovered. Regions such as Molise and Basilicata are completely unknown to most, hence prices are within the lowest of the country. However, these regions have so much to offer with stunning nature, beautiful towns and wonderful coastlines. As soon as links are improved and a proper communication strategy are in place, word will spread and people will start visiting and fall in love also with these places, making it a new lush marketplaces. Basilicata, for instance, is already moving towards this direction with new promotional campaigns, incentivising tourism in its wonderful territory.

It is incredible how Italy can offer on one side a well established and active property market and on the other side so many beautiful yet cheap areas where to find true bargains, areas that can be compared to new and upcoming markets.
