Le Marche Region, The New Florida?

In the US, Le Marche region seems to be quite appreciated .

The news emerged from the AARP magazine, very popular among retired in the U.S. with 35 millions of copies sold in one year, that places the region among the five earthly paradises where to live after retirement.
Probably, the spot commissioned by Le Marche region, starring the famous Hollywood actor Dustin Hoffman, took its effect, not in Italy though, where there were different opinions about its efficacy, but overseas probably this region is popular not only for its landscape and its beauty, but also for its affordable prices, when compared to those of the most famous Tuscany.

Maybe this region is sufficiently fashionable to work with a star like Hoffman: is the opinion of the magazine AARP.

Marche is a new Florida, the American state always considered as the reign of retired Americans, the place where rich people can spend their old age in a quiet and relaxed place.

The Italian region is inserted in this particular list along with the village of Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), the region of Languedoc (France), Cascais (Portugal) and Boquete (Panama).

A kind of revenge for the land of the poet Leopardi (whose poem, "The Infinite", is played by Hoffman in the spot) where beaches, art, architecture, lush vegetation and many culinary specialities included in the advertisment have fascinated many retired Americans.

Other aspects that affected the reporters of AARP are the good health system, many opera festivals (especially during summer time), good prices and the opportunities for sports throughout the year, from the mountains to the sea.

Le Marche offers, therefore, opportunities for everybody's pockets..

In the report of the American magazine, there is a critic about Tuscany, defined as "prohibitive" for its high prices, and also about Umbria, branded as too expensive.

But is not the first time, however, that the United States are interested in Le Marche. In 2005 an article in the New York Times named Le Marche as the new Tuscany. This article became one of the most read on the newspaper's website that year.

John Williams, a 62 years old man from Pennsylvania, is a symbol of this new trend. He was on holiday in Le Marche and decided to stay with his family, fascinated by the region and its beauty. In the United States he was a chiropractor, now he trades with olive oil and fruits of his own production.

During last year, there was an increase of 14% of foreign visitors (according to data provided by the Marche's Tourism Department) and there is an interesting real estate market too, with the majority of the requests for homes and properties from buyers coming from Northern Europe and the USA.

Le Marche are placed third in the ranking of the most requested Italian's regions according to data from researchs done by Gate Away.com. The middle prices for a house to restore situated in the countryside is between € 100.000 and € 220.000. You can find also some country ruins to restore around € 70.000. The average value of the property enquired in Le Marche is pretty over € 250.000: an affordable fee for a property.

People much prefer the property restored or in habitable conditions, more requests for houses instead of apartments, with 2 or 3 bedrooms, preferably with a garden, while the pool seems to have not so many preferences.

Ultimately, this is a good publicity for this wonderful region, hoping to be a driving force for future development opportunities.
