Italy's Paths of Passion and Romance

Did Romeo and Juliet really exist? Believe it or not the legendary balcony of the 13th century palace of the Capulet in Shakespeare's play, which is located in Verona, is one of the most sought after spots for romantic getaways in Italy. But the peninsula is infused with romance everywhere.

So do you want to do something that you and your soul mate will remember for the rest of your lives? Then you have to experience the real mecca for lovers worldwide, namely Venice, the floating jewel. It will provide you mesmeric backdrops for your perfect week of togetherness. Once there take a walk hand in hand you and your partner through its 18th century buildings that throng its calle (typical Venetian narrow streets) and bridges which tower above the canals. Afterwards pick one of the typical Lagoon restaurants to relish a candlelight dinner.  

On the opposite side of the peninsula experiment the unforgettable enchantment of Florence, where you will find a piece of history at every corner. Go for a stroll among Ponte Vecchio shops from where you can breathe a magic atmosphere on the Arno river and then reach one of its startling panoramic spots such as Piazzale Michelangelo, which is a wonderful terrace on the city, or Forte Belvedere. To every couple we also recommend a tour of the Chianti area, just few kilometers far from the town center. It is dotted by ancient farmhouses and cellars which offers a wide range of wines, olive oils and the typical products of the territory.

But also the small Valle d'Aosta region is the perfect place to live a fairy tale thanks to its innumerable castles that will catapult you directly to an old time ambiance. Think for instance about the Fenis castle where everything has been maintained or reproduced as it appeared hundreds of years ago.

Later repack your suitcase and head to Apulia, the heel of Italy, which is the right area to spend unforgettable nights due to the presence of its typical villages which offer dream scenarios. That is the case of Ostuni, la città bianca (the white town), where you will be captured by its tiny streets and houses of snow-white. From here you should reach the top of the fortress to admire the dramatic sea of Salento.

If you want to rekindle your love with your sweetheart do not miss Acitrezza, in the deep south of the 'boot'. In this part of Sicily you will be able to appreciate its faraglioni, those archetypical rocks that the terrible Cyclops called Polifemo threw to Ulisse after being blinded by the Homeric hero, according to the legend.
