It is followed by Japanese, Chinese and Indian cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/epdf\/10.1007\/s10824-019-09360-5?shared_access_token=FfddIiS6xBdwJtLzk7-P1ve4RwlQNchNByi7wbcMAY4zx5N-UUKRrx0g5uIY82MZ_oKJRR7W3gp0zqI51uqrHPQbRygEPsxVaQpOygCU_Z8cxPJw_x9bA1TVIpjmMYcyT3ejtsdERCn1CBXRizkMwA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paper<\/a>, titled <em>Dining Out as Cultural Trade<\/em> and published on the National Bureau of Economic Research journal earlier this year, uses TripAdvisor data on restaurant cuisines, along with Euromonitor data on overall and fast-food expenditure, and calculates implicit trade patterns in global cuisines for 52 destination countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He found out that over 10% people in 10 countries \u2014 among the top 17 economies \u2014 eat at Italian restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, excluding fast food, the largest net exporters of their cuisines are the Italians and the Japanese, while the largest net importers are the USA\u2014with a 2015 deficit of over $140 billion\u2014followed by Brazil, China, and the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"674\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gate-away.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/economist.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gate-away.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/economist.png 674w, https:\/\/www.gate-away.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/economist-300x251.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mediterranean diet is the answer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of Italian cuisine, the Mediterranean diet has been recognized by Unesco as a cultural heritage of humanity and it is one of the secrets for living a healthier life. That\u2019s one of the reasons why a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gate-away.com\/blog\/healthcare-in-italy-coronavirus-and-beyond\/\">good percentage of Italian people live longer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when in Italy, head to a grocery store or a vegetable market. You will find fresh, tasty local products and you will become aware of what is in season. Try to buy the ingredients to create a good Italian meal. Don\u2019t worry if you are not a chef, keep it simple! A <em>bruschetta<\/em> with olive oil, fresh tomato and oregano is excellent as an aperitif! Add a glass of a delicious wine and a bunch of friends and you have it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But don\u2019t get stuck on to the old favourites like pizza or pasta: try everything.
