In their report, Ecosistema Urbano<\/em><\/a>, they analyzed the environmental performances and the quality of life of 104 main towns based on data collected in 2018 and on 18 parameters that ranges from public transport to recycling rates, from pollution to green areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s see what the first five hidden gems have to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The North boasts the highest number of Italy\u2019s top cities for sustainable living<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Trento<\/strong> \u2013 In terms of quality of life and environment, the capital of Trentino Alto Adige is on top among Italy\u2019s greenest destinations. It is located just south of the Dolomite Mountains. The area is well-known for winter sports, but the city is a great travel destination too. Enjoy the spectacular Piazza Duomo or visit the marvellous Buonconsiglio castle. If you still haven\u2019t planned a trip to Italy in December, you have to experience the Christmas atmosphere there! Pordenone<\/strong> \u2013 This is definitely an off the beaten path destination that deserves a visit in the underrated region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Its historic centre boasts some marvellous painted and frescoed buildings that prove its economically and culturally rich past. So while walking on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in the heart of the town, look up and don\u2019t miss this treasure! But this lovely town has also plenty of beautiful architecture, from Piazza Duomo to the elegant Teatro Regio. You can easily explore its historic alleys on foot and enjoy every corner of it. It is also the perfect town to visit by bike: very popular among locals.

What about the rest of Italy?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In central Italy the most liveable regions are Marche<\/strong> and Emilia Romagna<\/strong> respectively with Pesaro (6th) and Macerata (15th) , and Reggio Emilia (12th) and Bologna (13th) in the top 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first greenest destination in the South of Italy appear in 9th position with Oristano in Sardinia<\/strong>. Then we find Cosenza in Calabria<\/strong> which is in 14th position and Catanzaro, capital of the region, is in 31st place. In Basilicata<\/strong> region the first town, which is Potenza, is only in 50th place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
