 The story of Castiglione Messer Raimondo is rooted in the pre-Roman era. The name derives from the medieval Latin castellio-onis diminutive of castellum or small castle and is equivalent to fortress, walled country. The subsequent integration of the denomination with "Meser Raimondo" is due to the identification of the fief with Raimondo Caldora, which became owner in 1414.
