ABETONE (Upper Pistoia Apennines, 1400 meters above sea level) A few weeks ago, I had a strange dream. One of those dreams that when you wake up in the morning, you rub your eyes, drag yourself to the kitchen, make a coffee, and think: Well, why did I dream of such a thing? And then life pulls you by the jacket: the kids to take to school, the emails, the clients, the houses that call me, and I answer, as always.
In the dream, there was a chalet in the mountains. Not an apartment, not a little house, just to say. Really a true chalet, with its private garden, the beeches around like silent guardians, so much wood, that mountain scent that enters your heart. In the dream, I walked in and boom: an enormous living room, with a large fireplace, the fire crackling, wooden skis hanging on the wall, a double height that makes you look up and say wow without even realizing it. Poi scendevo una scala e trovavo una sala biliardo. Yes, a billiard room, and suddenly a chalet bedroom, you know, with red and white blankets, a mansard roof, a wool duvet... And while in the dream I thought but look at that, what a gem, puff I wake up.
End of the dream. Or at least that's what I thought.
Then, a few days later Giannettini calls me, a Tuscan colleague with whom I often collaborate. Lucie, I have a chalet to show you. It's special, I think you'll like it. I laugh: Luca, I like all houses, you know.
I arrive in front of the gate. And there my breath stops.
It's him. The chalet of my dream.
Same garden, same beeches, same atmosphere. And there I understood something that I always say but that surprises me every time: there are houses that call you before you even know them. They send you an image, an emotion, a message. And when you arrive, you feel that they were waiting for you.
The ground floor: the warm heart Enter. And the chalet welcomes me as if it had known me forever. And I, I feel that somehow I know it too.
On the ground floor there are: two bedrooms, bright, welcoming, with that scent of wood that only mountain houses have a small bedroom, which in the mountains is pure gold a bathroom, comfortable, practical and then him: the enormous living room, with fireplace and double height, just like in the dream
I look at it, indeed I admire it, and I almost feel like hearing it whisper: Here you live, here you laugh, here you are together.
It's one of those environments that immediately make you imagine a scene: snow outside, fireplace lit, steaming cups, laughter, peace.
The basement: the surprise We go down the stairs. And there, as in the dream, here it is: the billiard room. A large, cool environment, perfect for playing, for inviting friends, for making a hobby room, a gym, a cinema or the car, or as it was originally the bottles of Chianti and the hams. Next door there is a habitable kitchen, a real, large kitchen where you really cook. Then a bedroom and a bathroom.
It's a floor that lives on its own, independently. Perfect for guests, grown-up children, or for creating your own area, away from the world.
The mansard floor: the secret refuge From the living room, a wooden staircase, cantilevered, rises into the double height void. It's scenic, elegant, one of those staircases that make you feel like you're climbing towards something special.
And indeed, at the top, there is the mansard bedroom. A room that looks like it came out of a novel: beams, wood, intimacy, soft light, a half canopy bed And then its exclusive bathroom.
It's the room where you wake up and hear only the silence of the snow. Where you take refuge when you want peace. Where you feel protected. Where you feel at home.
The garden: the private forest Outside, the chalet is surrounded by a garden that looks like a small private forest. The beeches provide shade in summer, protection in winter and poetry all year round. It's rare, very rare, to find a chalet like this in the center of Abetone, with so much private greenery.
It's like having a hut but with the shops a stone's throw away.
And now the chalet is waiting While I was watching it, I felt that feeling I know well: the feeling that a house is looking for someone.
A house like this doesn't want any buyer. It wants someone who understands it, who feels it, who lives it. Someone who entering says: It's her.
And as I thought that, the dream came back to me. Maybe it wasn't a dream. Maybe it was a preview. And maybe, now that you are reading, the chalet is also sending a message to you.
