THE MAGNIFICIENT FEDERICIANO CASTLE IN PERFECT STATE OF CONSERVATION WITH 10.000 SQUARE METERS OF LAND
In Roseto Capo Spulico (CS), we have for sale the magnificent Federiciano Castle in perfect state of conservation with 10.000 square meters of land of exclusive relevance.Completely restored, it is built on the sea with direct access and with the possibility of a private beach.Currently used as a restaurant and conference room.
The Castle of Roseto Capo Spulico, called Petrae Roseti, rises majestically on a rock overlooking the Ionian Sea, in a strategic position dominating the Gulf of Taranto.Just in front of the sea there is a rock with a singular shape, called the mushroom of the castle or "stone of the anvil".
The fortress dates back to the tenth century and is the first plant of Cistercian origin by San Vitale da Castronuovo: it is on the "Petrae Roseti" that the Saint founded a monastery. On the ruins of the sacred building arose the "Castrum Petrae Roseti" in the eleventh century by the Normans. At that time, the castle marked the boundary between the possessions of Robert the Guiscard and his brother Roger II (1105-1154), father of Constance d'Altavilla, heir of the Kingdom of Sicily and mother of Frederick II Hoheustaufen (1194-1250).In the 13th century (1229), formerly the Temple of the Order, it was requisitioned by Frederick II to the Knights Templar, for retaliation to their betrayal, during the VI crusade in the Holy Land (1228).It was restored and adapted to a military fortress; in fact from the Angevin Registers it is known the entity of the garrison assigned to the fortress that in 1275 is composed from the castellano, a squire and from twelve guards. The same Frederick, to whom the castle was very close to his heart, in his will, as reported in the "Da Monumenta Germaniae Historia, Legu, Sectio IV: Tomus II, n.274 "assigned the territory of Porta Roseti to the natural son Manfredi while all the castles and above all the" Templar Petrae Roseti "to the legitimate sons who will also be King of Jerusalem".Today, after careful restoration works by the owner company, it shines as a classic example of Templar derivation architecture.Of a trapezoidal plan, the castle is surrounded by crenellated walls that on the south side open into a wide entrance with an imposing gothic style portal that still preserves the crusader rose, the lily petals, the circle of Solomon and the coat of arms with griffin, emblem of the Swabian family; the structure has powerful towers, one of which is taller, crenellated and quadrangular.Inside the fortress there is a large courtyard, equipped with a central cistern, the remains of the stables, magnificent halls of representation and spacious rooms furnished in the medieval style.Recently, to complete the historical investigation based on studies of the Zarist Archives, it is known that the Holy Shroud was kept in the castle by Frederick II.This discovery is corroborated by studies on the castle's lapicides, which led to the reading of the sign of the "Griffin", which belonged to Frederick II and to the "Seal of Solomon" which reproduces that of the Temple of Jerusalem.
