Santa Domenica Talao is a small village within the Pollino National Park, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The heart of the village is Piazza Italia, a panoramic terrace overlooking the Riviera dei Cedri, from which the view extends from Scalea to Cirella, across the verdant Lao River Valley, and all the way to the blue Tyrrhenian Sea. The 22-meter-high bell tower overlooks the square, along with the façade of the Mother Church, dedicated to Saint Joseph, the town's patron saint. This building of great architectural value was constructed in the second half of the 17th century and completely restored in the early 2000s. During the restoration, numerous burials dating back to before 1339 were discovered in the crypt. Strolling through the narrow streets of its charming historic center, you can admire exquisite stone portals crafted by skilled local stonemasons and elegant palaces of notable families dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Santa Domenica Talao is renowned for its gastronomy, especially for the black truffle found in its mountains, and for its wild boar ragù, which is used to season the local handmade pasta, "gnoccoli al pettine."
