Longiano, a charming historical village situated on the first hills of Romagna (179 m. altitude), is about 12 km. from Cesena and 20 km. from Rimini. It has obtained the prestigious "Orange Flag" of the Italian Touring Club and appears in the list of "Ideal Villages of Europe". It has a long historical tradition and the medieval castle of the powerful Malatesta family, which stands on top of the hill, is a faithful example. Remarkable is the "Fondazione Tito Balestra" which, housed in the Malatesta Castle, is a museum of modern and contemporary art. It exhibits, among others, works by Campigli, Bartolini, De Pisis, Guttuso, Casorati, Kokoschka, Goya, Chagall. There is no lack of a cultural life that sees in the "Petrella" theatre the most privileged venue. Not to be forgotten are the jealously preserved craft traditions of the ancient textile printing works, present above all in the nearby Gambettola.
