He commissioned major restoration and expansion works, entrusting them to architect Giuseppe Partini and French gardeners Henri and Achille Duchêne, who also designed the garden that continues to enhance the castle's charm today.

The 19th-century transformations reinterpreted the medieval architecture, enriching it with new elements and refined internal decorations, now renowned for their artistic and craftsmanship value.
