Built on an ancient Roman Castrum from 150 BC, then converted into a monastery in the 13th century and a castle in the 16th century, it was wanted by the Counts Antonelli of Gubbio and Pergola.

In 1759, Cardinal Nicola Antonelli commissioned the extension of the building involving famous artists such as Vanvitelli, Andrea Vici, Felice Giani, Francesco Mancini, and others. The property was then given to the Countess Laurentina Castracane degli Antelminelli on the occasion of its wedding with Count Augusti.

In the 20th century it became the summer residence of the Augusti family, including:

- Count Umberto, general and decorated military;

- Nori de Nobili, an important Italian painter from the 20th century;

- Count Gino, military hero and political figure, who hosts illustrious personalities such as Churchill, D'Annunzio, Baracca and Hemingway.

The building, surrounded by a park of two hectares, houses the Gentile Church with a family crypt, still consecrated. Thanks to its internal decorations, it is called the "Domus Aurea delle Marche". Today there are two cultural realities:
