Main Features

Description

A prestigious residence in the heart of the locality of Vesime

In the very heart of the Langhe of Asti, in the characteristic main square of the town of Vesime, we offer for sale a property embodying over five centuries of history.
A timeless place where every stone, every fresco and every room speak of the lives of eminent families, of ancient traditions and extraordinary lives.
An elegance spanning centuries
The house’s initial layout dates back to the 1400’s but it is in the late 1500’s that the house was given its current shape, as demonstrated by a stone recovered during the home’s restoration and carved with the date 1592. The neoclassical façade, both imposing and refined, has been erected in the 1700’s using stones from the castle of Vesime which has been destroyed by the Spanish overlords.
The restoration of the interiors has been conducted with utmost care and attention to historic detail: the ancient doors, fireplaces, frescoed ceilings and stone-paved floors all fuse harmoniously with major but unobtrusive structural changes meant to guarantee modern-day amenities and comforts to the home’s present-day occupants.
A house with stories to tell
For over two centuries the residence belonged to one family, but subsequently its history has been intertwined with the history of the region and beyond.
In the 1800’s the house has been converted into a silk spinning mill owned by the Ceriana family, bankers and entrepreneurs from Alessandria, among the main actors of the story of Piemonte’s industrialization. Memorabilia from this period of the property’s history are preserved under an interior portico. In this house was born lieutenant Giovanni Strata, a pioneer of Italian aviation and a hero of the First World War: a sign that connects the house to the town’s collective memory.
The House: its Charm and its Potential
The main façade welcomes guests with an elegant, well-proportioned portico which precedes the main entrance to the house. Inside, we are welcomed by a majestic reception room where light entering through the ample windows with internal blinds illuminates the ancient floors and the decorated ceilings, surrounding the visitors in an atmosphere of timeless elegance.
The same floor contains the refined dining room communicating with the kitchen which opens onto a balcony that overlooks the characteristic inner courtyard.
A spacious hall leads to a study, a unique room that enchants with its frescoed ceilings and its original floors covered with traditional cement tiles.
This floor is rounded off by a guest bathroom and the imposing main staircase which leads to the upper floors:
- First Floor: three spacious bedrooms, one with its own bathroom, a changing room, a gym and another bathroom. The terrace boasts an enchanting view onto the square and the town’s church.
- Second Floor: a space which surprises by its luminosity and its versatility, suitable for transformation into refined rooms tailored to the occupants’ needs. From one ascends to the property’s true gem, the elegantly restored viewing tower which offers for relaxed contemplation unique vistas of the town’s rooftops and the gentle hills.
- Ground Floor: a pleasant inner courtyard for unforgettable outdoor lunches and dinners. It is enclosed by a fine portico which contains memorabilia of the one-time silk spinning mill and gives access to the cellar with its unique ambience made of exposed stone walls, elegant vaults, marble sinks and a cave excavated in the limestone. A space which can be converted into a tavern or a leisure room.
A spacious garage set nearby rounds off the property.
Unique features
The house contains architectural details that increase its appeal:
- One of the first gas illuminations installed in the area in the early 1900’s;
- A neolithic find with a phallic shape symbolizing fertility and contained preserved in the cellar as a talisman;
- The second-floor balcony which offers unrivaled landscape views that encompass the towns of San Giorgio Scarampi and Roccaverano.
A Life Style rather than a property
Rather than a simple habitation, this property is a container of stories, traditions and memories surrounded by the enchanting landscape of the hills of Piemonte. A place which combines the charm of the past with the potential to write new pages filled with life.
The property’s considerable size opens multiple possibilities for its transformation into an exclusive hospitality business. info@piemontehouses.com - +39 017370325
