Main Features
Description
In the heart of Trani, along the elegant Corso Vittorio Emanuele, stands Palazzo Pugliese, one of the rarest and most fascinating examples of 19th-century decorative eclecticism in southern Italy.
New exclusive images will soon be available, showcasing the contemporary reinterpretation of the historic spaces of Palazzo Pugliese, now home to the international luxury retailer Nugnes. A refined dialogue between 19th-century heritage and contemporary aesthetics, where delicate transparent textile installations complement the spaces, enhancing their extraordinary decorative richness.
Commissioned at the end of the 19th century by Giuseppe Alberto Pugliese, a prominent figure in Trani jurisprudence, the palace still represents today the most refined expression of the new cultured and enlightened bourgeoisie that, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, transformed the architectural face of the city.
Two elegant entrances lead to a majestic barrel-vaulted hall, from which spectacular staircases lead to the main floor: thirteen exclusive rooms, each conceived as an autonomous decorative universe.
The rooms contain precious ornamental works created by Southern painters Gaetano Paloscia and Palumbo, interpreters of a refined figurative culture capable of blending mythology, symbolism, Pompeian influences, oriental references and Art Nouveau influences.
The renowned Hall of Mirrors welcomes guests beneath painted skies populated by cherubs and allegorical figures, amplified by the reflected light of the crystals. The Hall of Arts, dominated by intense Pompeian hues, celebrates music, theater, and dance through a refined symbolic language illuminated by a precious Art Nouveau skylight.
The Hall of the Worlds brings East and West into dialogue in a surprising aesthetic and cultural fusion, while the Room of the Angels stands out for the harmony of its angelic figures immersed in delicate shades of gold and pastel blue.
Originally conceived as a private library, Dante's Room interweaves references to the Divine Comedy, symbolic figures, and precious damask decorations in a refined interplay of light and shadow. The Cameo Room, on the other hand, houses elegant decorative frames and an original, entirely hand-painted wallpaper, embellished with four precious cameos set into the vaults.
The Hall of the Nymphs, the palace's former dining room, retains an extraordinary sky-blue ceiling and opens onto a delightful terrace that enhances its brightness and charm. The evocative Arabian Room introduces a surprisingly modern aesthetic for the time, through golden symmetries and a rare, elegant oriental atmosphere.
The itinerary is completed by the sensual and luminous Room of Aphrodite, dominated by a precious decorative ceiling dedicated to the goddess of love, and the refined Room of Marie Antoinette, inspired by the apartments of Versailles and characterized by a sophisticated balance of blue and gold, a symbol of the graceful frivolity of the enlightened Apulian bourgeoisie at the end of the century.
Damask walls, original wood paneling, historic doors, monumental ceilings, decorative friezes, and extraordinary hand-painted wallpapers create an immersive experience of exceptional artistic and architectural value.
The palace's current splendor is the result of a long and meticulous conservative restoration lasting approximately four years, which brought to light original decorations, hidden colors, and forgotten architectural details, restoring authenticity and prestige to the entire property.
Today, Palazzo Pugliese continues to thrive through a refined dialogue between historical heritage and modernity, hosting the spaces of the international luxury retailer Nugnes, a recognized name in the global fashion and design scene.
