INFORMATION ON FELLINE Felline is a hamlet of 1,409 inhabitants in the municipality of Alliste in the province of Lecce. The territory has been inhabited since prehistoric times as evidenced by the presence of some menhirs. The first inhabited nucleus probably arose in the 3rd century BC. in the Roman period. Numerous archaeological findings suggest that Felline arose as a suburb of the nearby Messapian city of Ugento, where there was an important center for the production of ceramics. The clay soil lent itself directly to on-site production. The historic center of the town extends within the medieval walls, of which only short sections remain today. The village is characterized by small, narrow streets overlooked by ancient courtyard houses with Renaissance balconies and windows. Among the various stately homes, the De Rinaldis palaces, with an adjoining chapel dedicated to Sant'Oronzo, and the Trianni palaces stand out for their artistic importance. An important testimony to the aggregation and meeting of the local people is the ancient remaining public oven intact.
