Palazzolo Acreide: its origins date back to 664 BC, when it was founded by the Siracusans the Greek colony of Akrai on the Acromonte hill, between the valleys of the Anapospo and Tellaro rivers.
Over the centuries the city was dominated by several populations, including Romans, Byzantine, Arabs and Normans. Today there are several evidence of the passage of these populations on the Acremante hill, where the ancient city stood. In this archaeological area there is the Greek Theater of Akrai dating back to the 2nd century BC, and immediately next to the Temple of Aphrodite.
