Description

A jewel reserved for a few close friends , by Chiara Prosperini, architect.

Pisa, residential area close to the center, 1970s.
Gae Aulenti, an internationally renowned architect, who died a few years ago, was called to design a villa, a short walk from the medieval walls. This was his only Pisan experience, destined to remain unique and unrepeatable in the local panorama, and as will be seen over time, even in the Tuscan panorama.
Conceived in the name of the facing brick that appears everywhere, inside and out, the villa offers itself to the passer-by with discretion, in the name of privacy that reigns supreme and allows for a private lifestyle, sheltered from curious interests.
The intimate spaces of the family around the inner courtyard, an end of the garden well protected from heat and cold winds, very pleasant even in winter. The lawn, the fruit trees, the flowered terraces that can be seen from the windows, make you forget that you are inside an urban building and lead the soul in contexts of peace unrelated to those of the city. The particular articulation of the building makes the various parts of the villa independent, above all acoustically: in the very large living area, the relaxation area for reading or music coexists peacefully with the television room; the friendly talk around the fireplace is not affected by the kitchen; the rooms have the silence that is required. Natural light is the real protagonist: as soon as you pass the entrance, it enters the scene forcefully through the glazed 'cuts' of the roof, to amaze the viewer and anticipate the subsequent surprises, interior greenhouses, double volumes, corridors punctuated by crevices, continuous and sudden glimpses of the external garden.
Nothing has been changed compared to the original project, although there has been extreme care taken to maintain the efficiency of each system: it is still the same spaces, the same materials, the same locations as the custom furniture that mark the lives of the current owners, lovers of 'contemporary architecture and enthusiastic about living in a villa, for many years now, almost immediately after construction. It is a microcosm that has marked - they admit - the quality of their life, making them feel on holiday even at home.

Analytical description of the property:
The house, covering an area of about 400 square meters, is practically formed by a single ground floor, composed as follows:
living area:
- a large living room with a fireplace open on four sides, with various consequential areas: entrance, dining room, study, television
- a small toilet
- Eat-in kitchen with adjoining laundry-ironing room
- a corridor leading to the sleeping area
sleeping area:
- a bedroom with its own bathroom with shower
- a bedroom with its own bathroom with tub
- a large double bedroom with its own bathroom with shower and small dressing room
Attached to the villa is a small apartment on the first floor accessible by a staircase and with a separate entrance, which overlooks the garden, consisting of a living room with kitchenette, a bedroom, a bathroom and a terrace of medium size.
The house is completely surrounded by a 2500sqm garden.
There are also access from the outside:
- a cellar
- a technical room where the double boiler is located
- a storage room
- a storage room where a compressor is located to acquire water for irrigation of the garden, through an autoclave
- a garage located at the end of the garden
At the end of the garden there is a private road that connects the property to the road opposite the entrance: the house has a double entrance.

The villa has been published on the cover of both The Guide Books of Casa Vogue with the theme of Nine Villas by the author in May 1981, and in the architecture magazine with the theme of Architectures Pisane by Arch. Roberto Pasqualetti published by ETS in 2011.
