Description

BORGO DI GREPPO LISCHIETO
The apartment is located within a small medieval village finely restored in the 1980s by the Fendi sisters and the famous architect Nicola De Menna.
The Borgo is situated on top of a hill between Orvieto, Lake Trasimeno and Perugia with panoramic views of remarkable beauty.
The apartment, measuring 80 sq.m., is located on the second floor of a historic building and comprises an entrance hall, living room with fireplace and kitchenette, a hallway with two bedrooms and a bathroom.
The village also houses a clubhouse with a garden, shared by all the residents of the center. The purchase of the apartment also includes a share of this clubhouse, which can be used for events. Usage is to be shared with the other owners.
The apartment has been finely renovated to preserve its main and typical characteristics intact. The external walls are made of stone, while inside you can see '€‹'€‹wooden beams, terracotta floors, stone fireplaces and a bathroom with small squared stone tiles. A large arch in the living room, closed by a window, illuminates the room and offers a unique view of the surrounding countryside.
Given its location, the apartment is perfect for those seeking a peaceful life in a small village where time seems to have stopped in the Middle Ages. The short distance from services makes the apartment suitable for year-round residence or as a vacation home.

HISTORY
The origin of the center is unknown, probably dating back to populations related to the culture of the Castellieri of Northern Italy, but the first certain testimonies of the existence of the village date back to the Early Middle Ages. Between the 11th and 12th centuries, the village was the subject of a dispute between Orvieto and Marsciano, to be finally conquered by Perugia. At that time, the village was indicated as a villa (from the Latin "fortified farm") with a census of 24 families. A hundred years later, walls were built around the village (150 m, still visible today) and the villa officially became a castrum (not exactly a "castle" but a "walled city") and with this title the village is mentioned in subsequent documents after 1380 AD.
Frequent wars in central Italy damaged the city several times and Perugia repeatedly ordered tax exemptions for the city to allow its recovery (1440, 1455, 1470, 1475). However, none of these laws were sufficient to prevent the constant depopulation of the village, which in 1656 numbered no more than 85 people and was completely deserted by 1960.
Today, the village has been finely recovered and restored and offers a unique opportunity for a journey into the past.
