Umbertide is one of the main centers of the Upper Tiber Valley, also known as the "Museum Valley" due to the high presence of historical and cultural testimonies, an important crossroads between Umbria, Tuscany and Marche; the city attests the first human settlements already in Roman times, right in the place where the Tiber makes a sudden turn to the right. The first historical documents, however, date back to around 1189, years preceding the construction of the medieval core of the city, as well as of its walls. Among the main monuments we remember the Medieval Fortress, symbol of the city, built starting from 1385, today a place of exhibitions dedicated to contemporary art, the church of Santa Croce and the Church of Santa Maria which preserve works by Luca Signorelli and Pinturicchio .
Umbertide is also known for being the birthplace of important personalities from the world of literature, culture and entertainment, Pico Della Mirandola (1463-1494) deserves to be remembered, who wrote the initial cultural Manifesto of the Italian Renaissance to Umbertide.
