Casa Sabina is a three level 290 sq.mt. country home, set in a panoramic position above Fontana Liri in 1,500 sq.mt. of gardens

Gates lead into the formal front garden, where a path leads to the front porch. A wide entrance hall runs between the sitting room and the kitchen, towards a curtained archway which separates off the bedrooms. The living room has large french doors onto the porch and front garden, and eat-in fitted wood kitchen benefits from a large brick fireplace.

On this level, at the back of the house, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom.

Wide stone stairs lead up to further rooms, as well as down to the storage and entertaining areas on the lower floor.

The upper floor has another two bedrooms and another bathroom directly above those on the lower floor, and then a further two very large rooms at the front, as well as a generous balcony. All these rooms could be bedrooms, or you could turn the smaller bedroom into another bathroom, or you could open up the front rooms to make a huge open plan living area opening onto the balcony.

The house has beautiful views in all directions, thanks to its position on the crest of a hill, and a tranquil, rural feel, even though it has excellent road access and is only a short drive from Fontana Liri and Arpino.

ARPINO, FONTANA LIRI AND THE CIOCIARIA

Arpino is one of the major medieval hilltop towns in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy.

Fontana Liri is an old spa town, once famous for its hot springs. The even older part, a cluster of stone houses on the hill above, known as Fontana Liri Superiore, is noted for the many concerts it hosts throughout the year.

The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Fontana Liri itself is temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.

Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicised regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Arpino, Veroli, Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
