Description
Villino Cenci, Sant’Elia Fiumerapido is a delightful villa from the early 1900s, beautifully remodelled and renovated between 2019 and 2022. It is set in 300 sq.mt. of gated gardens in the centre of Sant’Elia Fiumerapido in a quiet and prestigious residential area made up exclusively of villas and cottages, a short distance from a city park and an ancient church, the Church of S. Sebastiano.
The property is configured over three levels: the ground floor (known as the Tavern), the first floor and the second floor. Elegant wrought-iron double electric gates open to reveal a very pretty driveway with cobblestone paving bordered by beautiful flower beds and hedges leading to the covered triple garage and the attractive entrance porch. The porch has stone flooring and gives access to the Tavern through a white-lacquered glass door all framed by ancient stones. Inside we find a magnificent open area for entertaining, remodelled with all the latest generation electrical appliances, a bathroom with shower and a closet. Here too is a small courtyard with green space.
Also from the entrance porch, an imposing double door structured in wood and satin glass, splendidly decorated with varying pictorial motifs adaptable to differing architectural styles, opens into a small hallway, a staircase of old stone and most importantly, into the main salon with a feature ribbed ceiling and marble strip flooring, an enchanting environment open to many forms of fusion decor, with a large white-lacquered window, double-glazed with triple panes.
The stone staircase leads to the first floor decorated in classic style, a lounge, a spacious, welcoming fully-fitted kitchen with an open fireplace for winter and access from a French window onto a splendid red terracotta terrace with an airy space shaded by a gazebo, the ideal place for sunny Italian breakfasts and al fresco dining in the balmy Italian evenings. From here you can stroll into the external garden.
A small passage arrives at the dedicated and tranqui night zone on the second floor where there are two bedrooms, very spacious, bright and with beautifully-patterned porcelain stoneware floors and an attractively-tiled bathroom.
Villino Cenci: a small paradise in the city centre of the attractive town of Sant'Elia Fiumerapido
Sant'Elia Fiume Rapido
Sant'Elia Fiume Rapido was founded around the year 995 by the Abbot Mansone of Montecassino and the name of S. Elia derived from the church of the same name which already existed in the plain crossed by the river. Visible remains of the walls and medieval towers of the old town, still well preserved, are clearly visible from long stretches of the surrounding hills and countryside .
Traces of a more remote past are the polygonal walls of the pre-Roman era, sections of a Roman aqueduct and the remains of columns and pediments of Roman buildings. The archaeological village of Valleluce is also interesting for its history, home to S. Nilo and S. Bartolomeo.
For over 800 years as a Montecassino fiefdom, S. Elia was also a centre of attention for royalty of Naples such as Federico II, Carlo I D'Angiò, Ferdinando D'Aragona, whose impact is still evident. From the 16th century it was an industrial centre for the manufacture of cloth and paper. Several seventeenth-century buildings in the historic centre are of importance as well as a number of urban and country churches of various periods and styles: Renaissance, Romanesque, Baroque.
Of particular naturalistic value is the area known as the White Mountains, one of the wildest places in Italy. Called the "Wilderness Area" it is a protected zone. By following the marked paths that lead to the Rapido river gorges in Vallerotonda, you can admire flora and fauna unique in Europe.
