Description
This very charming and pleasant apartment in Veroli has accommodation of 139 m² across one floor over a cellar of 28 m². Veroli is one of the very beautiful villages in the area known as the Ciociaria in the province of Frosinone in Lazio. It is perched at almost 600 metres above sea level on hills that arise out of a beguiling landscape, rich and varied, of rolling hills, terraced olive groves and ancient hilltop towns. Veroli was a Roman town certainly by the first century and had a Bishop, and status, in the 6th century. With over two thousand years of history, architecture and building, the styles of the ages, roman, gothic, medieval and romantic, are interwoven and harmonious, braided with one another in stone, terracotta and brick. The village has an almost magical feel especially for anyone sensitive to the beauty of the place, attuned to the centuries of history.
The entrance with a double-leaf gate opens onto a private courtyard with stone pebbles, typical of the style of the town and which serves as a driveway. This gives the possibility of parking at the apartment (an advantage in any hilltop town) and the garage on site can be rented. From the courtyard we enter the property and framed by an ancient and important vaulted ceiling, we find the staircase leading up to the living area.
On the first floor we are welcomed by a hallway, living and entertaining space. The exposed wooden beams on the ceiling here give the home environment a rustic but very charming atmosphere and add wonderfully to the personality and originality of the room. From a small hallway we access the kitchen with fireplace. The room has a ‘light grit’ terrazzo flooring, typical of historic 19th century houses, lovely underfoot and a wonderful asset. The bathroom with a shower is fully tiled.
The master bedroom is very large and bright, also with exposed wooden beams on the ceiling and ‘light grit’ terrazzo flooring. The second bedroom is illuminated by two windows, the beautiful floor in dark terrazzo. A third bedroom would be perfectly usable as a study, relaxation area, home office or additional bedroom for guests or children. All rooms have double glazed windows. Autonomous radiator heating with methane gas supply.
This pleasant residence is located a few kilometres from Isola Del Liri, the beautiful Certosa di Trisulti and from the Casamari Abbey. We find ourselves projected into the land of monasteries and abbeys close to the town and not far from Frosinone.
Veroli is one of the major medieval hilltop towns in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy. The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Veroli itself is temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.
Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicised regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Veroli, Arpino, Alatri or Alvito or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
