The Natural Park of the Nebrodi Mountains is the largest expanse of protected land in the whole of Sicily, and stretches from the beaches and marinas of the Tyrrhenian coast to the foothills of Mount Etna in the south. Along the way it unfolds as a thrilling landscape of mountains and lakes, forests and rivers which provide a home to innumerable species of flora and fauna.

Galati Mamertino, where Casa dei Nonni stands, is a little community of around two thousand residents at an altitude of 800m above sea level. It's one of the last stops you come to before the centre of the natural park, which is completely free from towns and villages, spreads out over a vast area of 80,000km2.
