The medieval village of Ficulle looks like a homogeneous monument with the ancient walls, the two fortresses defending the town, the numerous churches, streets and squares and the oldest center of Castel Maggiore.
Ficulle, in fact, around the end of the thirteenth century is a well-formed castle with military and administrative supremacy over the entire neighboring territory. The defensive walls of the castle consisted of a circle of walls, still clearly evident in the eastern part, along which it seems that several sighting and defense towers were located. Of these, only two fortresses that guarded the entrance doors of the town have survived. The one located to the south is the Rocca di Ficulle par excellence, an element of great architectural impact, which over time has become the emblem of the town. In the territory of Ficulle there are many testimonies of its medieval past with fortresses and castles that preserve the charm and the original architectural beauty, declined in the landscape to create paintings with a strong visual and emotional impact.
The Conventaccio is a medieval building that was a fortified observation point located on the south eastern side of Monte Nibbio with an excellent view of Orvieto.
