According to the report, the best provinces to live in Italy are Aosta, Piacenza and Cagliari.

Quality of Life Ranking: the method

This Index allows you to compare well-being across provinces, based on topics the business newspaper has identified as essential, in the areas of material living conditions and quality of life. 

Needless to say that people in different stages of their life have different needs. So a place that is good for families is not necessarily equally good for retired people. 

That’s why, the research took into consideration 3 age groups: kids (0-10 years old), youth (18-35 years old), elderly (over 65 years old). They used different factors for each age group to rank the quality of life in Italy’s provinces. For instance, for the kids category, they considered schools and nurseries as well as the percentage of parks and fertility rate.

Aosta – Kids category

Aosta has been declared as the most kids-oriented province in Italy for the good quality of its schools, analyzing the number of students per class, school gardens and cafeterias. Things that have been taken into consideration for the ranking of this category is the number of nurseries and pediatricians.

The following provinces that ranked high just right after Aosta are all in Tuscany: Arezzo, Siena and Florence. In fifth position is Udine, in Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

Piacenza – Youth category

Emilia-Romagna region conquers the podium with 3 of its provinces in the top places: Piacenza, Ferrara and Ravenna. 

In terms of wellness for people between 18 and 35 years old, this index takes into consideration the percentage of unemployment and graduates, rents (prices and availability), sports centres, nightlife like discos and bars, but also companies with managers under 35 y.o. and companies with e-commerce.

Cagliari – Elderly category

The third category takes into consideration several criteria to define the province that offers the best conditions for the elderly. They are: life expectancy at 65 y.o., the number of geriatricians and nurses, libraries and the expenses of the public institutions for home care and transport.

Cagliari gained the trophy for the great life expectancy, together with its fellow province Nuoro in fifth place.
